Leeawuleena means sleeping water and is the Aboriginal name for this lake. It is Australia's deepest lake 167m, scoured out by glaciers millions of years ago. The outflow of water from Lake St Clair contributes to both the Derwent and Tarraleah Hydro Electric Schemes.
